About this opportunity
Beginning in academic year 2024-2025, this award will be granted to a graduating student selected/recommended by the AVC faculty who completed their full secondary education at a Nova Scotia High School, excelled in the fourth-year course "Diseases of Poultry", and has a declared/demonstrated interest in poultry medicine in Nova Scotia. If no Nova Scotia student is eligible, students from the other Maritime provinces, and then from outside the Maritimes, who meet the other criteria may be considered. The poultry industry in Nova Scotia is a thriving, sustainable sector that is expected to contribute to the province's rural economies for years to come. Poultry farmers rely on veterinarians to help them maintain healthy flocks and meet stringent national animal care and food safety requirements. The Nova Scotia Feather Boards (Chicken Farmers of Nova Scotia, Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia, Hatching Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia, and Turkey Farmers of Nova Scotia) have established these awards to acknowledge the valuable role poultry veterinarians play within our industry and create awareness among veterinary students of the opportunities available in poultry medicine.
