About This Opportunity

The NSA Samuel Wharry Memorial Award is given in memory of Samuel Wharry, NSA Chairman who died in 2017, and recognizes his enthusiasm for science, technology, and genetics in sheep farming. Since 2019, NSA Next Generation and the Company of Merchants of the Staple of England have jointly offered this award as a travel opportunity for young people in the sheep industry. The 2026 award funds two young sheep farmers to participate in the Next Generation Global Sheep Producers Forum, meeting with fellow young sheep farmers from Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Canada. Recipients will travel to Australia and New Zealand in July 2026 for a 10-14 day trip that includes farm visits, industry tours, and attendance at LambEx, one of the world's largest sheep, lamb and wool forums held near Adelaide, Australia. This award provides an exceptional opportunity for young sheep farmers to gain international experience, build networks with peers from other sheep-producing nations, and learn about innovative practices in the global sheep industry.
