About This Opportunity

The NSW Aboriginal Housing Office Accommodation Grant provides financial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of Sydney who are experiencing housing stress. Established in 2019 and funded by the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office, this grant aims to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students complete their studies by providing support to address the cost of living and accommodation. The grant is valued at up to $10,000, with the exact amount determined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Strategy and Services) based on individual circumstances. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate that at least 30% of their income is directed towards rent or housing costs, evidenced through rental agreements, mortgage payment requirements, or accommodation statements. Applications are assessed on an ongoing basis at the end of each month by a selection committee that includes senior university leadership and staff from the Gadigal Centre, with at least half of the committee members being of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. The grant is offered subject to availability of funds.
