NSW Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Cadetship

The NSW Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Cadetship program is designed to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples pursuing careers in nursing and midwifery. The cadetship offers financial support, work placements, and mentoring to expose students to diverse possibilities within nursing and midwifery. Connection to culture is central to the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and this program enables Aboriginal nurses and midwives to provide culturally appropriate care that allows patients to feel safer and advocated for when away from family and community. The cadetships provide an opportunity for students to focus on their studies while gaining workforce experience and building professional relationships. This program is part of the broader Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Strategy aimed at increasing Aboriginal representation in the nursing and midwifery workforce across NSW Health facilities.
