About This Opportunity

This network grant provides funding for a constellation of researchers to plan for a future application to establish excellence clusters in groundbreaking technology, with a focus on future technology areas. The grant is intended to create opportunities for researchers to prepare a comprehensive planning framework that can be translated into a future application for excellence cluster funding. The clusters aim to become world-leading in strategic groundbreaking technology areas to strengthen competence and competitiveness in Swedish business. Each cluster is expected to encompass a powerful and focused investment of tens of millions of SEK per cluster per year, involving collaboration between higher education institutions. The planning grant must be reported back to the Swedish Research Council after 6 months, with a report (maximum 20 pages) that can serve as a planning basis both for the authors ahead of future applications and for the Swedish Research Council as a basis for designing future calls for excellence clusters in groundbreaking technology. The report should cover research area and scientific position, long-term vision and impact, collaborations and networks, cluster development and infrastructure, humanistic and social science perspectives, and resource plan and budget.

Review process

Applications are assessed by a review group consisting of head secretaries from the Swedish Research Council. At least three members review and assess each application individually. The entire review group then meets to discuss and prioritize applications.
