About this opportunity
The Okanagan Historical Society Student Essay Contest encourages the research and writing of Okanagan history by secondary and post-secondary students. The contest awards a $1000 prize to the winning essay that depicts history which occurred in the geographic area encompassed by the Okanagan, Shuswap and Similkameen Valleys. Essays must be between 1500 and 2500 words and suitable for publication in Okanagan History, the annual publication of the Okanagan Historical Society. Winners may have their work published in the society's annual report, providing students an opportunity to contribute to the documentation and preservation of regional history. The contest is open to students currently in Grades 9 to 12 or at any post-secondary institution, providing a valuable opportunity for students to develop their historical research and writing skills while exploring the rich history of the Okanagan region.
