About this opportunity
The Pat Hungerford Nursing Scholarship Fund was established to honor Pat (Velta Lane) Hungerford, who graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Washington, DC and dedicated her life to nursing care in Georgia. She helped establish the Public Health System in Georgia, worked in Sparta and Jones County, and in 1960 built Lynn Haven Nursing Home in Gray, GA, which was the first nursing home built from the ground up as a nursing home in the middle Georgia area. The purpose of this scholarship is to support a student from Georgia who has been accepted into a Nursing program for an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at an accredited two-year or four-year technical college, college or university in the state of Georgia. Preference will be given to applicants from Jones County, Georgia. The scholarship provides $2,000 annually and is renewable for up to two years of nursing school in college. One new award is given per year. Prior recipients may renew the award each subsequent year for up to four years total by completing required follow-ups and maintaining eligibility criteria including a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
