About this opportunity
The Shelburne County Arts Council (SCAC) offers an art scholarship for graduating students or graduates residing within Shelburne County, Nova Scotia. This scholarship is intended to reward arts students for past accomplishments and to encourage future pursuits in the arts. Established in 2021, the scholarship was created in memory of Peter Oliver, who was the director of the Basement Theatre in Shelburne, and his wife Joan - both were mentors and friends to many students. Peter has been described by his students as being dynamic, fun, challenging, curious, brave yet devoted, and a perpetually interesting man who gave something to the people of Shelburne. The scholarship supports full-time undergraduate students pursuing majors in dance, literature, music, theatre, traditional arts, and visual arts at fully-accredited colleges or universities. One scholarship in the amount of $300 is awarded annually at the graduation ceremony of the local school of the recipient.
