About this opportunity
The Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) Educational Assistance Fund is an education bursary program established in June 1989 through a trust created by combining three private donations. The purpose of the fund is to help individuals who were in provincial care in British Columbia reach their educational goals by providing financial assistance for post-secondary education.
The bursary is designed to cover shortfalls in funding for students pursuing post-secondary academic, technical, or vocational programs. Eligible applicants include former permanent wards of the Ministry of Social Services or those formerly in the continuing care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) or a Delegated Aboriginal Agency (DAA)/Indigenous Child and Family Service Agency (ICFSA).
Bursary funds can be used to cover fees, books, maintenance, and transport costs. Awards are annual and range in value up to a maximum of $4,500 per approved applicant, with the actual amount varying each year depending on the interest gained in the trust. The program aims to support youth who have aged out of care in achieving their educational and career goals.
