About This Opportunity

This PhD scholarship offers funding to support experimental investigations and the development of mathematical models aimed at valorizing waste and producing carbon nanomaterials. The project requires fundamental investigations at macro, micro and molecular levels. Modeling tools such as HSC Chemistry and ASPEN Plus will be used to identify most suitable low cost catalysts/minerals and to perform process modeling respectively. Experimental investigations will be carried out using a bench-scale experimental CVD rig to study the reaction mechanisms. Several advanced characterization methods (such as SEM-XRD, TEM, XRF, EDS, HNMR, BET etc.) will be employed to characterize the carbon nanofiber structures. For molecular level understanding, DFT modeling will be employed. The scholarship provides a minimum stipend of $34,841 each year for three years to perform experimental investigations and developing mathematical models to valorize waste and produce carbon nano materials.
