About this opportunity

This PhD scholarship is supported by the Clinical Translational Research Partnership (CTRP) between RMIT and Northern Health. The innovative initiative harnesses the power of near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy combined with advanced AI analytics to revolutionize how we monitor rectal cancer patients following chemoradiation therapy. By enabling real-time, non-invasive detection of residual disease and early recurrence, the approach promises to reduce the need for invasive biopsies and costly imaging, while improving patient outcomes and quality of life. This scholarship will empower the research team to develop and clinically validate a state-of-the-art NIR endoscopic platform, bringing us closer to a future where personalized, efficient, and accessible cancer surveillance is a reality. The CTRP-PhD Scholarships are especially targeted towards promising candidates who are currently registered healthcare practitioners in the relevant field, and have an interest in advancing their clinical careers towards an academic path. This scholarship targets residents, trainees, consultants, and clinical fellows in Surgical Specialties who have demonstrated experience and interest in Colo-Rectal Surgery.
