About this opportunity
This PhD scholarship opportunity focuses on interdisciplinary research in energy materials, electrochemistry and battery technology. The research will investigate the sodium and sulfur redox reaction mechanism through the combination of cutting-edge in situ experiments and computational investigations. The project aims to address practical challenges in room temperature sodium sulfur batteries (RT-NaSBs), which are a promising next generation energy storage system due to the low cost and abundant reservation of sodium and sulfur elements. The research will investigate the sulfur redox reaction mechanism through cutting-edge in situ experiments and computational investigations. Knowledge outcomes will inform the rational design and optimisation of electrocatalysts to solve the sodium polysulphides shuttle effect, relieve sluggish reaction kinetics, and eliminate the formation of Na metal dendrites at the anode.
