About this opportunity
This PhD scholarship supports research focused on maximizing resource recovery from a range of organic streams via co-digestion and thermal treatment. The project will explore different integration options of anaerobic digestion and thermal treatment to synthesize value-added materials while addressing limitations regarding contaminants. Sustainable management of organic wastes is critical for greenhouse gas emissions reduction and circular resource recovery. Organics management via biological and thermal treatment can offer intensive approach to maximize resource recovery and minimize contaminants transfer into the environment. This project will involve a literature review followed by experiments and modelling, working closely with a multidisciplinary team. The scholarship provides numerous development opportunities including developing lab-scale and pilot scale experimental rigs, developing numerical models, and working closely with industry partners through internship program.
