About this opportunity
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the field of Multimodal Representation Learning in Biological Data, jointly hosted by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the College's new I-X initiative at Imperial College London. This studentship is especially targeted at PhD applicants with an interest in artificial intelligence and medicine. The PhD research will explore multimodal representation learning in biological data, focusing on finding the synergy between artificial intelligence (AI) and large-scale multimodal high-content screening data. The research project will create innovative multimodal representation learning techniques that go beyond supervised learning to realize more efficient and accurate inference of biological relationships amongst genetic and chemical perturbations. The research is at the intersection of artificial intelligence and medicine with potential for widespread impact on AI-enabled drug discovery and significant benefits to the pharmaceutical industry. Successful candidates will join the Biomedical Image Analysis Group at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, which ranked 1st in the UK (Engineering) in REF 2021 based on the proportion of world-leading research.
