About this opportunity
The Pokaia Nepia Scholarship supports full-time domestic Waikato-Tainui uri (descendants) studying any programme in 2025 at the University of Waikato. The scholarship focuses on areas that align with the strategic aspirations of the iwi (tribe). Established in 2024 through a partnership between Waikato-Tainui and settlement funds held by Te Papa Atawhai Department of Conservation, the scholarship honors the memory of kaumātua (elder) Pokai Nepia, fondly known as Uncle Poka. He was instrumental to many organizations in the Waikato region, creating rich channels of communication and engagement to Waikato-Tainui. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and is available to domestic students currently enrolled full-time (120 points) in any programme at the University of Waikato in 2025. Doctoral and MPhil programmes are excluded from this scholarship opportunity.
