About this opportunity
The Porter Womack Scholarship honors Porter Womack, a successful homebuilder and civic leader who enrolled in the Phoenix Union High School (PXU) Carpentry Program in 1920 to learn a trade to support his family. From the 1930s through the 1960s, his companies built numerous residential developments and neighborhoods, as well as commercial, governmental, and higher education buildings throughout Arizona. This scholarship is awarded to a Phoenix Union High School District student who will be completing the construction program and planning to study construction technology at the post-secondary level. The scholarship recognizes students pursuing careers in the construction trades, continuing the legacy of Porter Womack's contributions to Arizona's built environment. Recipients must demonstrate commitment to the construction field and meet specific eligibility requirements including obtaining three letters of recommendation.
