Postdoctoral Individual National Research Service Award (F32)

The Postdoctoral Individual National Research Service Award (F32) is a Kirschstein-NRSA fellowship designed to provide postdoctoral research training to individuals to broaden their scientific background and extend their potential for research in specified health-related areas. The purpose of this fellowship is to enhance the research training of promising postdoctoral candidates who have the potential to become productive, independent investigators in scientific health-related research fields relevant to the missions of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers. This is a mentored fellowship opportunity available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who hold a research or clinical doctoral degree and are in the postdoctoral/residency career stage. The fellowship supports training at both U.S. domestic institutions and foreign institutions, providing individual research training grants to qualified candidates. The F32 award is part of NIH's Research Training and Career Development funding category, utilizing a training individual budget mechanism. Applications require 3-5 reference letters and must align with the mission of at least one of the 19 participating NIH Institutes and Centers.
