About this opportunity
This scholarship supports postgraduate research students with a background in musicology, music history, or cultural history with a focus on music/sound. The PhD, DMA or Masters student will work with a small team with expertise in cultural history, musicology, cross-cultural histories, and gender history. Students will have opportunities for supervision by Dr Amanda Harris and other members of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music or wider University of Sydney Academic staff. The student would have access to technical and studio facilities at the SCM, including the PARADISEC lab.
Research topics should be relevant to the project's focus on musical networks and cultural exchange in Australia and its region at any point in history or the present. Potential research areas include musical encounters, networks or exchange in the Oceanic region; regional musical practices (especially Indigenous, Pasifika, or migrant practices); and histories of major and minor cultural institutions, ensembles or musical movements.
Two scholarships are available, each providing approximately $111,000 over 3 years for full-time study at the University of Sydney's Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The scholarship is open to all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria.
