About This Opportunity

This scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to a PhD student who is undertaking research in developing a seminal approach to describe the solutions of nonlinear equations called the discrete Painlevé equations. The scholarship is funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney. The scholarship provides comprehensive support for international PhD students to conduct advanced research in mathematics, specifically focusing on nonlinear discrete Painlevé equations. The award includes both a living allowance stipend and full tuition fee coverage for up to three years of doctoral study. Applicants must hold an honours degree (first class or second class upper) or a master's degree in mathematics with a substantial research component. The successful candidate will work within the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science, and must be willing to conduct full-time research into nonlinear discrete Painlevé equations. Selection is based on academic merit, area of study and research proposal, curriculum vitae, and previous research experience. The scholarship recipient will receive up to 20 working days of recreation leave and 10 working days of sick leave annually, with provisions for research overseas after the first six months.
