About This Opportunity

This Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to a PhD student who is undertaking research in oral health. The scholarship is funded by donation from Jerry Schwartz. An opportunity exists within the Westmead Applied Research Centre, University of Sydney for suitably qualified candidates to undertake research studies leading to a Doctor of Philosophy in the area of oral health with a focus on health promotion. The World Health Organisation has identified oral disease as the most common noncommunicable disease and although preventable, the rates of oral disease have increased globally over the last 30 years. The broad scope of this project includes developing and testing the efficacy of new strategies using digital technologies to improve access to oral health information and care to improve oral health outcomes. The successful applicant would be involved in the consumer engagement process, study design and implementation, collecting patient data, and analysis of dental and medical datasets. Experience with statistical software programmes such as R and/or SPSS is required. There are additional opportunities to develop and contribute to health policies related to oral health care and develop skills in research methodology, data analysis and public health. The successful candidate will be based at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health within the Westmead Precinct.
