President's Merit Scholarship Program

The President's Merit Scholarship Program at the American University of Beirut is a merit-based scholarship awarded to several top incoming students across all faculties who have distinguished themselves both inside and outside the classroom and have a proven commitment to the pursuit of excellence for the greater good. The scholarship is awarded by invitation only to first-year students (freshmen, sophomore, and medical students) who demonstrate exceptional academic and leadership achievements. Up to 10 scholarships are awarded per cohort starting with students entering in fall 2024-25. Eligible students are identified based on high school grades (grades 10 and 11), SAT scores, and admissions composite scores. Selected potential awardees receive an email invitation to apply and must submit an online application along with a CV, essays detailing their academic, personal and leadership achievements, supporting evidence of qualifications (certificates, portfolios, news, etc.), and participate in an interview. The President's Merit Scholars become part of a community of citizen leaders who are altruistic, highly accomplished, and share a commitment to use their talents to make a difference and effect positive change during their university years and beyond. Students with full tuition scholarships are not eligible for this program.
