About this opportunity

A scholarship valued at $3,000 awarded annually to a full-time graduate student enrolled in any research-based master's or doctoral program at the University of Waterloo. Selection is based on academic excellence (80% cumulative average) in their current program combined with demonstrations of leadership and contributions to humanitarian efforts. This scholarship is made possible by donations from friends and family of Professor Sofyan Taya, a dedicated researcher, teacher, father and friend taken far too soon. Notable examples of humanitarianism include initiatives focused on community support, local hospitals, NGOs, emergency management, providing food and shelter, aiding refugees, improving sanitation and water access, combating hunger, addressing agricultural crises, offering vision care, and supporting children. The award is available from 2024 until the funds are exhausted, with the first selection made in Fall 2024.
