About this opportunity

This project grant from the Swedish Research Council is designed to strengthen Swedish research focused on societal preparedness and security. The grant enables researchers to independently formulate research ideas, methods, and implementation to solve defined research tasks within a limited timeframe. The initiative aims to finance research that can contribute to improving preparedness for threats and crises, including climate change, natural disasters, pandemics, military threats, terrorist attacks, or destabilization and disinformation campaigns. The grant encourages humanistic and/or social science research perspectives, with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches considered important and potentially valuable. International comparisons and research collaborations are emphasized as crucial for learning from experiences elsewhere and generating relevant knowledge. Research may address questions about how public engagement in responding to threats and crises is designed, historical perspectives on societal preparedness and security, or comparative perspectives examining differences and similarities between countries in design and effects of societal preparedness.

Review process

Applications are evaluated by an international review panel. At least three members review and rate each application individually. The entire panel meets twice, in spring and autumn, to discuss and prioritize applications. Only applications with reasonable chance of funding proceed to the autumn meeting for more in-depth discussion.
