About this opportunity

This project grant with special focus aims to support research on segregation and exclusion in Sweden. The research program should contribute to new knowledge about significant socioeconomic differences that exist between different residential areas, neighborhoods, and regions in Sweden regarding school results, education levels, language skills, employment, income, health, life expectancy, safety, democratic participation, and involvement in cultural life. The research should contribute to new knowledge about how social, economic, cultural, and political exclusion limits individuals' and groups' opportunities to improve their situation over time and between generations. By clarifying the causes, mechanisms, and consequences of exclusion, research can identify effective measures to improve people's life chances, reduce segregation, and promote inclusion. The program's broad focus means that pressing issues around segregation and exclusion can be illuminated from a range of different perspectives, welcoming applications from all scientific fields as well as cross- and multidisciplinary approaches.

Review process

Applications are reviewed by an international expert panel. At least three members individually review and grade each application. The entire panel meets twice, in spring and fall. Only applications with reasonable chances of funding proceed to the fall meeting for more in-depth discussion. All applications receive feedback with grades; those discussed at the fall meeting receive additional written assessment.
