About this opportunity
The Community Climate Response Fund is an annual contestable fund for climate-related projects that aims to support and encourage community efforts to build resilience to the effects of climate change, or support the transition to a sustainable carbon neutral regional economy by 2050. The fund has no limit on funding per project and is designed to promote the social, economic, environmental, and cultural wellbeing of communities now and for the future. Applications are welcome from non-profit organizations or individuals partnering with them that have community-led projects aligning with Horizons climate change objectives. Eligible initiatives include those that build resilience of communities and the environment to climate change effects, support transition to a sustainable carbon-neutral regional economy by 2050, can be completed within 12 months, are one-off projects (though multi-year projects will be considered), and incorporate mātauranga Māori knowledge. The fund aligns with Horizons Regional Council's vision of a healthy environment where people are thriving and represents one aspect of their climate change approach by supporting people to make a difference.
