About This Opportunity

The SEFS Quercus Scholar Medal is awarded by the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science at University College Cork, based on the results of End of Year First, Second and Third year University Examinations. Only 21 students are eligible for this title annually. Seven Quercus College Medals are awarded in each of first, second and third years. The top three students in each of two subject groups (Engineering/Mathematical Sciences/Computer Science/Physics and Life Sciences/Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences/Food and Nutritional Sciences/Chemistry) in first, second and third years are selected based on the highest percentage marks. A seventh medal in each year is awarded to the student with the smallest gap in percentage points between 3rd and 4th ranked in their group. The award is a Quercus Scholar Medal, tenable only in University College Cork for the session immediately following the award. To be eligible, students must be currently registered in the College, must have completed the programme of the preceding year in minimum time, and achieved the standard at the first attempt with minimum first class honours.
