Quercus Entrance Scholarships

The Quercus Entrance Scholarships are awarded to First Year undergraduate students admitted via CAO onto a full-time Level 8 primary degree programme at University College Cork. Recipients are selected on the basis of being among the top 15 students in their College with respect to Leaving Certificate Examination (LCE) Points achievement or EU equivalent. No application is required as successful students are notified directly. The scholarship value varies based on the number of eligible students, and recipients receive the title of Quercus Entrance Scholar along with a parchment certificate. To be eligible, students must have met normal entry requirements for their degree programme and been validly registered. Students who have previously registered for a degree programme at any third level college are not eligible. Scholarships are awarded in order of merit according to UCC's standard scoring system for Leaving Certificate results, with only performance in the six best subjects taken at the first attempt counted. In cases where more than 15 candidates in a College achieve the top score, all eligible students receive the scholarship. In 2023, up to 187 candidates across the four Colleges met this criteria. Recipients must continue to meet attendance and other programme requirements including examination entry throughout the year. If a holder withdraws from their programme or fails to meet these requirements, they may be required to repay all or part of the scholarship.
