About this opportunity

The Rafi & Zohreh Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship awarded to journalism students at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee who have achieved senior standing by the start of the fall semester. Recipients must demonstrate academic merit with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA and show appreciation and understanding of non-U.S. cultures and identities through various means such as personal background, study abroad experiences, extracurricular activities, or other cross-cultural experiences. Financial need may be considered as a factor but is not a requirement for the scholarship. The scholarship is specifically designed to recognize students who combine academic excellence in journalism with meaningful cross-cultural engagement and understanding. Applications are typically accepted in January, with scholarships awarded for the following fall semester. Important eligibility restrictions include that second degree students are not eligible, and students graduating in May or August of the award year are also ineligible. The scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Dr. Hassan Rafi-Zadeh '68 and Dr. Zohreh Sotoodeh.
