About this opportunity
The Ralph N Emanuel Scholarship is open to individuals from asylum-seeking backgrounds wishing to study for their first undergraduate degree or an equivalent professional qualification. The scholarship pays home tuition fees and associated study costs for asylum seekers or dependents of asylum seekers living in the UK who are awaiting a decision or appealing a decision for asylum from the UK Home Office, or those who have been granted Limited Leave to Remain or some other form of temporary status. The specific amount awarded depends upon the candidate's individual circumstances and university location. The trust assists successful candidates to negotiate home fees from their chosen university. Students must be pursuing an undergraduate degree with a clear humanitarian purpose, which applicants are expected to demonstrate in their application. The scholarship was established by The Jusaca Charitable Trust and named after Ralph N Emanuel, a generous philanthropist whose support for refugees started when his parents in Brighton offered hospitality to German Jews fleeing the Nazis. Throughout his life, Ralph worked to bring Germans and Jews together.
