About this opportunity
The Removing Da Kink in My Mind Essay Competition/Scholarship is an external award offered to Black students in Canada who are pursuing undergraduate studies. The scholarship recognizes and supports students who are engaged with mental health issues in Black communities. Internationally, Black people in Caribbean, South American, European, African, and North American countries have been making strides conceptualizing, assessing, and treating mental health and illness in their communities. However, challenges remain in addressing mental health stigma, including miseducation on mental health and illness and limited culturally relevant mental health care options. This scholarship supports Black mental health professionals and students aspiring to pursue this career pathway. The competition is open to Black students who are the age of majority in their respective province or territory, are current full-time undergraduate or college students, and are legal residents of Canada or international students with a legal Canadian permit/visa to study in Canada in Year 1, 2, or 3.
