Research Grant

Baily Thomas Charitable Fund Original Source

About This Opportunity

The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund's Research Grant programme directs funds towards the initiation of research in learning disabilities so that it can progress to the point at which there is sufficient data to support an application to one of the major funding bodies. Applications will only be considered from established research workers and will be subject to normal professional peer review procedures. The programme offers two tiers of funding: small research grants up to £5,000 that can be considered by Medical Trustees outside of usual meetings on a rolling basis, and larger research grants (exceeding £5,000) that are reviewed at meetings held in June and November each year. Before submitting a full application, researchers are recommended to submit a one-page summary of the proposed study including hypothesis, method, expected outcome, value to the learning disability community, and approximate cost. The application process is conducted through an online system. On completion of a supported study, recipients are required to submit a report using the Fund's pro-forma Research Report template. The research must demonstrate clear value to the learning disability community and include sufficient description of the proposed study design and methods for proper assessment.
