About This Opportunity

The Swedish Research Council offers project grants specifically aimed at developing methods for replacement, reduction, and/or refinement of animal experiments according to the 3R principle. The purpose of this project grant is to give researchers freedom to formulate their own research ideas, methods, and implementation, and to solve a defined research task within a limited time. Projects must have 3R relevance, meaning they must develop methods for replacing animal experiments with alternatives, reducing the number of animals used, or refining procedures to minimize suffering and improve welfare. The grant supports research across medicine and health, natural sciences, and engineering sciences. Funding ranges from 400,000 to 800,000 SEK per year for periods of 1-3 years, starting in January 2027. Applications must be submitted in English (except for the popular science description in Swedish) and will be evaluated by Swedish and international experts based on scientific quality, innovation, applicant competence, and feasibility, as well as relevance to 3R principles.
