About This Opportunity

MMCA Residency Changdong in Seoul is an international artist residency operated by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA). The program started in 2002 and offers residency exchanges in collaboration with art and cultural institutions worldwide. The residency is aimed at artists working with different materials, methods, and artistic expressions. The purpose is to strengthen artistic practice, promote exchange between local and international practitioners, and support the development of professional networks. MMCA Changdong offers a productive work environment and creates opportunities for dialogue between artists and other actors in the art field, such as curators and critics. Residency grant recipients participate in an international program together with artists and researchers from Korea and other countries. Open Studios are arranged twice a year, where grant recipients present their work in the residency's exhibition spaces. The residency provides private studios with accommodation (46-60 m²), shared kitchen, community room, shared toilet and shower facilities, two exhibition spaces, and a larger outdoor work area.
