About this opportunity
The Richard E. Whitted Scholarship honors the memory of Richard Whitted, former Orange County Commissioner and Board of Commissioners chair, by recognizing his legacy of service and citizenship. This scholarship is awarded to college-bound seniors from Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City schools who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and public service. The scholarship was created to keep alive Richard Whitted's example of service and to support students who embody similar values of community engagement and academic excellence. Recipients receive $1,000 toward their first year of college at a 4-year public or private college or university. This is a non-renewable scholarship that may be used towards any need listed under the school's total cost of attendance.
