About This Opportunity

The Richard "Obie" Oberweiser Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Richard "Obie" Oberweiser, a beloved father, brother, son, friend, and mentor who dedicated his life to healthcare as a first responder. Obie served as an EMT-I on ambulances and with the St. Vincent Hospital HELP LIFE flight team, and was known for his bravery, leadership, kindness, and incredible sense of humor in caring for patients. He passed away in 2018 after a five-year battle with prostate cancer. This scholarship was established by Obie's family to help students explore careers in first responder emergency services, continuing his legacy of service and dedication to emergency medical care. The scholarship is available to current or previous graduates of Chelan or Douglas County who are pursuing careers in first responder emergency services. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate commitment to entering the field of emergency first responder services. The application period opens January 1st with a deadline of June 1st annually.
