About This Opportunity

The Richard P. Seiter Scholarship was established by Dr. Richard P. Seiter, a career correctional professional who served as Director of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC). After receiving his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University, Dr. Seiter began working in corrections and established this scholarship to recognize the commitment and service of current DRC employees to the State of Ohio. Dr. Seiter created this scholarship for children of current DRC employees with the belief that education can set a person's course for life and put them on the path for success, just as it did in his own life. He values the dedication of people who give their careers to public service, especially those who work in the difficult jobs of corrections. The scholarship supports students attending or planning to attend four-year accredited colleges or universities in the United States. Candidates must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have acceptable ACT or SAT scores if available. Preference is given to candidates who have not already received this scholarship. Dr. Seiter believes that helping correctional employees with their children's education is an investment in the future of the country and state, creating a legacy he wants to leave.
