About this opportunity
One scholarship, valued at up to $6,000, will be awarded annually to an outstanding Black or Indigenous undergraduate student entering Year One in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo (excluding Software Engineering but including Computing and Financial Management). For the purpose of this scholarship, an Indigenous person is one who is a citizen or member of a First Nations community (Status/Non Status), Métis, and/or Inuit. Black students may include African, Afro-Caribbean, Black Canadian, Afro Latine, African American, Afro-Indigenous, or other African descent.
Selection is based on a combination of academic achievement and community involvement through extracurricular and/or volunteer activities. Preference will be given to students who are attempting to advance Black or Indigenous initiatives in their community. The scholarship is available to both Canadian/Permanent residents and international students entering their first year of study.
This fund is made possible by Rico Mariani (BMath '88) who is committed to removing barriers for Black and Indigenous students in Computer Science. Interested students must submit an online application through the Waterloo applicant portal by April 15.
