About This Opportunity

Rideal Travel Bursaries are offered by the Sir Eric Rideal Trust, managed jointly by SCI (Society of Chemical Industry) and the RSC (Royal Society of Chemistry). The bursaries are offered twice per year to promising academic research workers in the general field of colloid and surface science, especially heterogeneous catalysis. Awards are designed to assist with travel, subsistence, or conference registration to attend international conferences or to visit relevant research institutions for study visits. The bursaries are named after Sir Eric Rideal, recognizing his contributions to the field. Awards of up to £250 will be made on a competitive basis to assist with travel to conferences within Europe, and up to £500 for conferences in another continent. The bursaries target scientists in the early stages of their careers, typically two to six years from commencing PhD studies. In the case of study visits, preference is normally given to those wishing to travel outside their country of residence, especially if they wish to work in a laboratory abroad. Applicants must be standard or student members of SCI or members of RSC, and must be either resident or studying in the UK. Applications with no link to the UK will not be considered. The bursaries are not available to applicants who are only SCI e-members or those who are not members of either society. Applications are accepted twice per year with specific deadlines and travel periods.
