About This Opportunity

The Rio Tinto Excellence Scholarship - Women in Engineering is part of the Rio Tinto Excellence Scholarships Scheme at The University of Queensland. This scholarship was established in 2017 and is maintained by an annual gift from Rio Tinto Services Limited. It provides financial support to female students enrolled in approved engineering programs who are experiencing financial hardship. The scholarship awards $10,000 per year for 2 years, with 2 scholarships available annually. Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in specific engineering programs including Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a combined Engineering/Science program with an Earth Science major. Applicants must have completed at least 14 units but not more than 34 towards their approved program. Selection criteria focus on demonstrated financial hardship, personal and leadership qualities, and potential to succeed in the engineering profession. Preference may be given to past recipients of Rio Tinto Scholarships or participants in Rio Tinto Internships. Recipients cannot hold another scholarship that the Associate Dean considers to be similar. The application process requires a cover letter, resume, studies report, and evidence of financial hardship. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview as part of the selection process.
