About This Opportunity

One annual award given to a graduate student in September of each year; the amount depends on investment income. The graduate student must be enrolled in the groundwater program in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences at the University of Waterloo. The student must have chosen to pursue a research topic concerning groundwater in a developing country or on the topic of regional hydrogeology in Canada. No application is necessary as the Award Selection Committee determines eligibility in consultation with professors within the department. This scholarship was founded in 1990 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Dr. Robert Farvolden's arrival at the University of Waterloo and his initiation of the groundwater research program. The endowment was established from the proceeds of a short course on Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids organized by graduate students and professors in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences.
