About this opportunity
The Robert A. Hawkins Scholarship Fund honors Robert Hawkins, a dedicated teacher who taught Spanish for 40 years in the Upper Arlington School District and at The Ohio State University. Robert instilled in his students a desire to think for themselves, allowing them to discuss current topics and how they would be personally affected. His love of languages is evident in his degrees in Italian and Spanish, having studied in Ecuador, Italy, Mexico, and Spain. He also studied Arabic, French, German, Latin, and Portuguese. Robert loved to travel, having visited more than 100 countries and sharing insights he gained with his students.
This scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors of Upper Arlington High School who have demonstrated excellence in foreign language study and commitment to school and/or community service. Candidates must have completed at least four years of the same foreign language and plan to pursue a major or minor in a foreign language at an educational institution in the United States. The scholarship recognizes students who share Robert's passion for languages and cultural understanding, continuing his legacy of inspiring others through education and exploration.
