About this opportunity
The Robert Barford Philosophy Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students majoring in philosophy at Eastern Illinois University. This scholarship recognizes academic excellence in philosophy with a focus on Dr. Barford's areas of emphasis including classical philosophy, religious studies, social/political philosophy, or peace studies. Applicants must demonstrate strong academic performance with a minimum philosophy GPA of 3.50 and overall GPA of 3.20, along with completion of at least one philosophy course at EIU. The scholarship requires submission of an 8-page paper related to one of Dr. Barford's fields of emphasis, which may be written specifically for the application, a previous course assignment, or a creative work such as a position paper. Financial need is also considered in the selection process. Recipients may reapply in subsequent years if they continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The award is announced and paid in the Spring semester.
