About this opportunity
The Robert Crowley Memorial Prize for Excellence in Collegian Column Writing honors the memory of Robert Crowley, a Journalism major and Collegian columnist who graduated from UMass in 1982. Crowley wrote columns for the New Bedford Standard Times until his death in an automobile accident. This memorial prize recognizes outstanding column writing published in the Massachusetts Daily Collegian.
The award is open to published Collegian columnists who are enrolled in a degree program at UMass Amherst. Applicants must submit one column that was published under the Opinion section of the Massachusetts Daily Collegian during the current academic year. Previous winners of this prize are not eligible to apply again.
A committee of Journalism faculty evaluates submissions and selects the winner based on three key criteria: quality of writing, originality, and effectiveness. The prize provides a monetary award of $550 to recognize excellence in student journalism and opinion writing at UMass Amherst.
