About this opportunity
The Robert Rector Memorial Scholarship honors Robert Rector, who learned machining and tool making from his father as a teenager. His family business, Western Sintering Co in Richland, WA, began during WW2 and continues today. Robert believed that education is the way to everyone's future and was always ready to share to make learning possible for others. This scholarship fund has been created in Robert's honor to encourage youth in developing their interests in machining skills, a field much in demand in industry where recipients will be sought after as skilled tradespeople. The scholarship supports students graduating from Cascade, Cashmere, or Richland High Schools who have completed or are currently enrolled in Material Science classes during their junior or senior year. It is available for students planning to attend vocational-technical school, community college, or university in the fall for education in metallurgy, as well as non-traditional students returning to school in the field of metallurgy. The scholarship is renewable.
