About This Opportunity

The Robert T.E. McLaughlin and Mary Janet McLaughlin Award in Canadian History is awarded to a student with satisfactory academic standing entering the third or fourth year of study for a Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Alberta. Selection is based on demonstrated interest in the field of Canadian history, academic standing, and demonstrated community involvement on campus or in the community-at-large. The recipient must have completed a minimum of one Canadian history course and be registered in a minimum of one Canadian history course. This endowed award was established by members of the Douglas R. Matheson family in recognition of Robert T.E. McLaughlin, who graduated from Vermillion School of Agriculture, and Janet McLaughlin, RN, who graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSc in Zoology in 1961. The McLaughlin Award recognizes the McLaughlins' significant contributions to the life of Canada through volunteer work in education, athletics, civic life and politics. It acknowledges their passionate interest in Canadian history and their desire to inspire that passion in others.
