Rural Teacher Scholarship

The Rural Teacher Scholarship at Eastern Illinois University supports students pursuing teacher licensure who plan to teach in rural Illinois schools. Recipients must be enrolled or accepted at EIU and majoring in a field leading to teacher licensure with specific focus on rural education. The scholarship requires maintaining a minimum 2.65 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Preference is given to students demonstrating financial need and incoming freshmen. Applicants must submit an essay explaining their motivation to teach in a rural school setting. Recipients may reapply one additional time if they continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The award is announced in Spring and paid in Fall semester.
