Sanctuary Language Bursary

The Sanctuary Language Bursary provides free places on pre-sessional English language courses for individuals seeking asylum in the UK or with official refugee status who need to improve their English language skills before studying at the University of Portsmouth. The bursary is designed to support those who have submitted an application for asylum or humanitarian protection, have been granted Discretionary or Limited Leave to Remain, or are dependants of someone in these situations. Two bursaries are available each year, covering full tuition fees for the Pre-Sessional English Language Programme and the cost of an English Language Assessment if needed. Recipients must have a conditional or unconditional offer from the University of Portsmouth for entry onto an undergraduate degree course (excluding NHS funded courses) in September, and must be able to support their own accommodation and living expenses while living within commuting distance of the university.
