About This Opportunity

The Sanctuary Scholarship is offered by the University of Portsmouth to support individuals seeking asylum who are pursuing undergraduate (Bachelor's) degrees. This scholarship provides comprehensive financial support by covering all tuition fees for each year of an undergraduate degree, including sandwich years. Additionally, recipients receive financial support towards study costs such as books, IT equipment, travel costs, and other expenses that help students study effectively. The scholarship also includes ongoing personal support to help identify and overcome barriers to achievement during the course. Typically one Sanctuary Scholarship is available each year, with applications opening in January for September entry. Applicants must be living in the UK and either have submitted an application for asylum or humanitarian protection, have been granted Discretionary or Limited Leave to Remain, or be a dependent of someone in these circumstances. Recipients must also be unable to access UK Government student financial support due to their immigration status and be willing to act as champions for the University.
