About this opportunity
The Sardella Family Elementary Education Scholarship supports full-time students at Eastern Illinois University pursuing a career in elementary education. The scholarship is awarded to students who have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program and demonstrate strong academic performance with a 3.25 overall GPA and 3.5 GPA in Elementary Education coursework. Recipients must be Illinois residents living within a 100-mile radius of Charleston, Illinois, and must be in their Junior year during the Spring semester when the award is announced. The scholarship is intended as an incentive to achieve success, with preference given to students who demonstrate the greatest potential for lifetime success as a teacher. Financial need is considered at the discretion of the Selection Committee, with preference given to students who have not earned any previous academic aid. Applicants are required to submit an essay outlining why they want to pursue a career in teaching at the elementary school level. The award is announced in the Spring and disbursed in the Fall semester, and recipients may only receive the scholarship once.
