Scurrah Wainwright Charity Grants

The Scurrah Wainwright Charity provides grant funding through annual funding rounds. Named after Henry Scurrah Wainwright OBE (1877-1968), a Leeds chartered accountant and social reformer, the Charity was established in 1991 following the sale of Leeds medical company Chas F Thackray Ltd. The Charity has strong historical connections to causes associated with Zimbabwe and southern Africa, particularly in supporting students, reflecting the legacy of Andrew Wainwright's affection for the region. The Charity maintains traditions established by the H S Wainwright General Charitable Trust, which supported Zimbabwean students and educational initiatives throughout the late 1970s and 1980s. Applications are reviewed by trustees who meet annually to allocate grants following the close of each funding round.
